Stronghold Crusader, Developed by Firefly Studios, is an RPG, Single-player and Multiplayer Simulation. The game takes place in the Middle East and comprises different campaign strings with several combats such as Heraclea, Nicaea, Krak des Chevaliers, etc. It introduces the limited number of resources and farmlands to create rivalry among players in building farms on the oasis grass. The player comes across with numerous new Arabian units and AI opponents. The game provides lots of resources deposited on stockpiles, including marshes and iron which the player can use for defense purposes. The player can build an army in two different ways either make weapons and spend a little gold to turn peasants into soldiers or even turn them directly into soldiers by utilizing more golds via mercenary post. The game proposes almost fifty levels, and each of them contains one or more kings. The player has to conquer them to defend his kingdom. At the start of the game, the player gets an option of 3 chickens to skip a specific level. As the player proceeds gradually, levels become more challenging to complete. Stronghold Crusader consists of prominent features such as 2D, Action, Adventure, Sandbox, Masterpieces, Historical, Tactical, Medieval, and more.

Both Stronghold Crusader and Stronghold Crusader Extreme are included in Stronghold Crusader HD. Extreme plays exactly like the original Stronghold Crusader, only with a few additions. The unit cap has been increased from 1000 to a staggering 10,000 troops, special Tactical Powers such as the Arrow Volley can be used and new buildings make their appearance alongside the Crusader Extreme skirmish trail.
